Resolving aluminum overcapacity through supply-side structural reform
The issue of overcapacity is still one of the most prominent issues in China's aluminum industry and even the world's aluminum industry. How to solve the problem of overcapacity in the aluminum industry, Wen Jun, Vice President of the China Non ferrous Metals Industry Association, believes that the supply-side structural reform of the aluminum industry is to strictly control the new production capacity of electrolytic aluminum, cultivate the market, guide consumption, increase effective supply, and continuously expand the application of aluminum in accordance with the principle of focusing on meeting domestic demand.
Why should we always advocate expanding consumption when it comes to the supply side? According to the literature, consumption and supply are two aspects of a key point, namely, supply for the upstream and consumption for the downstream.
On the supply side, according to preliminary statistics, as of the end of April 2017, the total capacity of electrolytic aluminum nationwide was 410.2 million tons (excluding 1.23 million tons that were permanently shut down in 2016). Among them, the operating capacity is 37.75 million tons, and the temporary shutdown is 3.27 million tons. In addition, there are more than 7 million tons of production capacity under construction. Therefore, the top priority of the aluminum industry is to strictly control the new electrolytic aluminum production capacity and reduce competitive costs; Secondly, continuously reduce energy and raw material consumption to achieve cleaner production; Third, strengthen technological innovation and increase effective supply; Fourth, accelerate the pace of mergers and acquisitions, optimize the layout of productivity; Finally, it is necessary to standardize the export order and actively respond to international trade frictions.
On the demand side, there is a certain difference between the overcapacity of the aluminum industry and other industries. Currently, it seems that the consumption peak of the aluminum industry has not yet arrived, and there is still great room for growth. At the same time, the excellent performance and price advantages of aluminum are more competitive in many fields. Therefore, cultivating markets and guiding consumption are particularly important. At the same time, it is necessary to strengthen upstream and downstream cooperation, jointly carry out technical and application research, and accelerate the formulation of new application standards; Secondly, the guiding ideology is to provide users with products with the best cost performance ratio, and continue to expand the application of aluminum.
For many years, the China Non ferrous Metals Industry Association has been committed to expanding the application of aluminum and promoting aluminum consumption. Since 2012, the promotion of "replacing steel with aluminum" in the transportation field, "saving copper with aluminum" in the electric power field, and "saving wood with aluminum" and "replacing steel with aluminum" in the construction field has achieved good results. In 2017, the China Non ferrous Metals Industry Association will continue to promote the application and development of the aluminum industry in more fields, such as large-scale applications and development of aluminum furniture and aluminum air batteries.
The level of integration of industrialization and industrialization in the nonferrous industry needs to be improved urgently
Zhang Jian, Director of the Internet Economy Research Office of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China, proposed that the current level of integration of industrialization and industrialization in the nonferrous metal industry and the readiness of large-scale enterprises for intelligent manufacturing are lower than those of other industries. The application penetration rate of enterprise basic automation in major production processes and processes has approached 100%. How to promote the integrated and innovative development of the nonferrous metal industry and the Internet? Zhang Jian suggested that the platform transformation should be taken as an important entry point for the transformation of the current economic development mode and the upgrading of industrial structure, so as to transform the traditional industrial economy from scale, standardization, and specialization to the personalized, dynamic, and collaborative transformation of the digital economy, and achieve a rapid response to the customized economy and sharing economy centered in the era of the digital economy.

At present, China's Internet environment has matured, and the service concept of Internet plus industry has gradually penetrated into people's lives. With the increasing efforts of the country to promote the construction of an energy and resource saving society, the application of aluminum in the fields of automotive lightweight, high-speed rail, aerospace, and other fields is gradually increasing. The application of "saving copper with aluminum", "saving wood with aluminum", and "replacing steel with aluminum" continues to expand, and aluminum consumption will continue to grow. At the same time, there is still a certain gap between China and developed countries in terms of resource ownership and per capita consumption in the aluminum industry, and there is still great potential for the application field and market space of aluminum products.
How to promote the integration of the Internet and the aluminum industry? Zhou Yufeng suggested that, first of all, the integration industry needs a complete credit system to achieve effective resource docking; Secondly, as information and transactions achieve synergy, more needs emerge, upgrading from a vertical industry information delivery platform to a service platform throughout the industry chain; Third, it should be noted that the new round of Internet competition is no longer just a single competition, but a competition between the industrial chain and the ecosystem.
